(New York, NY, January 5, 2022)— WQXR and Carnegie Hall proudly unite to present Carnegie Hall Live, now in its 11th season, hosted by Jeff Spurgeon and John Schaefer. This season, which began with Carnegie Hall’s dramatic Opening Night Gala following its closure during the COVID-19 epidemic, will again feature live performances from New York’s historic cultural landmark.
The first performance of the new year is on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at 8 PM ET, featuring Susanna Mälkki in her Carnegie Hall debut conducting the New York Philharmonic and soloist Branford Marsalis in a program of John Adams, Sibelius, and Hailstork’s “An American Port of Call.”
The season also features pianist Emanuel Ax, violinist Leonidas Kavakos, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma in a recital of Beethoven piano trios; violinist Joshua Bell performing with the Galilee Chamber Orchestra for The Annual Isaac Stern Memorial Concert; John Williams conducting a special program of his works with The Philadelphia Orchestra and soloist Anne-Sophie Mutter; the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with cellist Kian Soltani and Musica Sacra performing works including Holst’s “The Planets”; the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Valery Gergiev featuring pianist Denis Matsuev in an all-Rachmaninoff program; Anthony Parnther conducting the Gateways Music Festival Orchestra in their Carnegie Hall debut; and many more.
All Carnegie Hall Live broadcasts will air locally on New York’s only all-classical music station WQXR FM, and will be available to digital audiences on-demand at wqxr.org, and carnegiehall.org. In addition, the series is airing on public radio stations across the country throughout the year. The full WQXR broadcast schedule is listed below.
Ed Yim, WQXR’s Chief Content Officer, said: “As New York’s classical music station, WQXR is proud to continue our partnership with Carnegie Hall as live performance returns to our city.
