Joe Hong Joins the WNYC/Gothamist Newsroom

Read more in this note from Christopher Werth, Senior Editor

I’m excited to announce that Joe Hong will be joining the newsroom as a data reporter.

Joe has been an education and data reporter for nearly a decade. He started his career as an education reporter at The Desert Sun, the daily newspaper in Palm Springs, California, and then went on to KPBS, the public radio station in San Diego, where he covered the pandemic’s impact on education and the broader region. He then worked as the K-12 education reporter at CalMatters, a nonprofit newsroom based in Sacramento, where he published an array of data stories focusing on pandemic recovery and teacher shortages in high-poverty schools throughout California. His reporting on dyslexia led to a statewide policy on universal testing in California, and his past investigations on a youth rehabilitation program led to reforms in juvenile justice.

His first day is March 25. I’m very excited to welcome him.
