Carnegie Hall and WQXR Present the 13th Season of Carnegie Hall Live
Hosted by WQXR’s Jeff Spurgeon and WNYC’s John Schaefer
Live concert broadcast series airs through May 2024 on WQXR 105.9 FM in New York and public radio stations nationwide, and at WQXR.org
(New York, NY, October 3, 2023) — WQXR and Carnegie Hall are proud to unite again to present the 2023-2024 season of Carnegie Hall Live, a series of live concert broadcasts, hosted by WQXR’s Jeff Spurgeon and WNYC’s John Schaefer.
The season kicks off on Wednesday, October 4th at 7pm with Carnegie Hall’s Opening Night Gala performance by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Riccardo Muti conducts Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto featuring violinist Leonidas Kavakos. Also on the program is Mussorgsky’s Pictures from an Exhibition (orchestrated by Ravel).
Additional season highlights include composer John Williams conducting The Philadelphia Orchestra and Yo-Yo Ma in his own Cello Concerto; a solo recital with pianist Daniil Trifonov in a program of Rameau, Mozart, Mendelssohn, and Beethoven’s monumental “Hammerklavier” sonata; and Jordi Savall with his ensemble Hesperion XXI in an inventive program of early Baroque music.
Several concerts in the series are part of Carnegie Hall’s citywide festival, Fall of the Weimar Republic: Dancing on the Precipice, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra led by Andris Nelsons with Seong-Jin Cho as soloist in Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand; Sir Simon Rattle conducting the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in works by Hindemith, Zemlinsky, and Gustav Mahler; the National Symphony Orchestra led by Gianandrea Noseda with violinist James Ehnes, making their Carnegie Hall Live series debut; and many more.
Carnegie Hall Live broadcasts live on New York’s only all-classical music station, WQXR FM, and on demand at wqxr.org, and carnegiehall.org/wqxr. In addition, the series airs on public radio stations across the country throughout the year. The full WQXR broadcast schedule is listed below.
