Hi everyone,
I am excited to welcome André Robert Lee to WNYC Studios as the new Executive Producer of Notes From America with Kai Wright.
André has had a long and fascinating career in media, most notably as an award-winning, independent filmmaker behind documentaries and projects for Paramount TV, PBS, and CNN, among others. His work has covered incarcerated youth, Civil Rights history, and personal narratives from underrepresented communities – including his own. In his autobiographical documentary The Prep School Negro, André revisits his days as a Black student on scholarship at an elite private school alongside a look at the experience of students of color at the school today.
He is also an educator, leading public conversations about justice and racial equity across the country, and working to establish a filmmaking program for upper and middle school students at the Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia. André is a huge fan of Notes From America, and he’s eager to bring his storytelling chops, production skills and community networks to the show and share his inspired vision for expanding its reach on air and on digital platforms. André’s first day is Monday, January 23, 2023. Thanks so much to the Notes team, along with Melissa Frank, Emily Botein, and Miriam Barnard for being a part of the selection process.
Warm Regards,
Lindsay
