(New York, NY – January 21, 2021) — Beginning tonight, WNYC presents “America, Are We Ready for the First 100 Days?” a limited run weekly call-in radio show for Americans to talk, debate, and find common ground during the first 100 days of the Biden-Harris administration.
Hosted by Brian Lehrer, WNYC’s Peabody Award-winning public affairs host, and airing on stations across the country, “America, Are We Ready for the First 100 Days?” will bring listeners together across divides to participate in lively, candid, and inclusive conversations about challenges facing the new administration. The first four episodes will center around the four priorities in President Biden’s plan: COVID-19, economic recovery, racial equity, and climate change.
On tonight’s debut, Lehrer will be joined by co-host Kai Wright, host of the weekly radio show and podcast The United States of Anxiety, and guest Mara Gay, New York Times editorial board member. They will look at Biden’s commitment to racial equity, and how in the past, laws and policies that have advanced racial and social justice have often produced strong — sometimes violent — backlash and come at a political price. While Biden feels strongly about both unity and racial justice, will he need to sacrifice one to produce the other?
Next week’s co-host will be Rose Scott, award-winning journalist and host of Atlanta’s midday news program Closer Look on WABE.
“America, Are We Ready for the First 100 Days?” airs nationally Thursdays, January 21 through April 29, 8-9pm ET on WNYC 93.9 FM and AM 820 in New York City and on over 75 public radio stations across the country. The show is also available for livestreaming on WNYC.org. Listeners can join the conversation by calling (844) 745-8255.
