New York Public Radio Names Armando Gutierrez Chief Financial Officer
With two decades of experience transforming digital operations within traditional broadcast organizations including CBS and Viacom, Gutierrez will play a key role in shaping and developing NYPR’s long-term ambitions and growth strategies
(New York, NY — November 18, 2020) – New York Public Radio (NYPR), home of WNYC, WQXR, Gothamist, WNYC Studios, The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space, and New Jersey Public Radio, announced today that Armando Gutierrez has been named Chief Financial Officer. His appointment will take effect on December 2.
Gutierrez brings more than 20 years of experience developing financial strategy, transforming traditional broadcast businesses, and driving digital growth across media organizations. He joins NYPR most recently from CBS Corporation, where he was CFO for all CBS owned-and-operated radio and television stations’ digital properties. As a core member of the NYPR executive leadership team, Gutierrez will provide leadership on short-term and long-term financial planning, collaborating with teams across the organization to develop ambitious growth strategies amid shifts in the media landscape and in audience engagement habits. He will manage NYPR’s finance functions, planning and strategy, legal, business development, distribution, and broadcast operations teams to ensure alignment on financial compliance and best practices. Gutierrez will report directly to NYPR President and CEO Goli Sheikholeslami.
“I am excited to welcome Armando to New York Public Radio at a dynamic time for our organization and the broader media world,” said Sheikholeslami. “Very quickly, Armando struck me with his intuition for collaboration and consensus-building, and I knew he would be a great fit for our organization. He has spent almost the entirety of his 20-year career in the media industry, cultivating expertise in guiding organizations financially as they adapt and expand their digital capacities. We are confident that his experience and sharp business acumen will help NYPR grow in a sustainable way, and fulfill our mission to serve local and national audiences with news, conversation, and classical music.”
“I am very excited to join New York Public Radio at a time when the trusted journalism, innovative podcasts, and stellar music and cultural programming it provides is so essential to our city and our world,” said Gutierrez. “This is an incredible opportunity to help New York Public Radio foster sustainable growth, meet the challenges of an evolving media landscape, and increase its service to an even greater audience.”
During his time at CBS Corporation, Gutierrez coordinated long-term strategic planning for several initiatives company-wide and managed domestic and international M&A transactions as part of the corporate development unit. Prior to that, Gutierrez worked at Sirius Satellite Radio and Viacom and spent time as an equity research analyst specializing in media businesses. A native of Miami, Florida, he holds an MBA from the Yale School of Management and a BA from Amherst College.
