WNYC Studios Presents “Radiolab for Kids”
A collection of kid-friendly stories from the Radiolab archive for families to enjoy during this time of staying at home
Episodes can be found at RadiolabForKids.org
(NEW YORK – April 6, 2020) — Today, WNYC Studios and Radiolab, one of the most beloved podcasts in the world, releases a collection of family-friendly content with “Radiolab for Kids.”
“Radiolab for Kids” digs into the show’s extensive archives and brings together some of the most engaging and amusing episodes that are sure to delight the most curious of young minds, with stories about everything from a look at how global the game of Tic Tac Toe is to how dogs see rainbows.
The new kid-friendly feed launches with a collection of episodes ready to binge. With many families facing new challenges with schools closed and children at home all day, “Radiolab for Kids” offers an educational and recreational alternative.
“One of the most consistent questions we get at Radiolab is from parents who want to know which episodes are kid friendly and which aren’t,” said Jad Abumrad, Host and Creator of Radiolab “I understand the question. I have two boys, and there are shows we’ve made that I’ve happily shared with them, and definitely a few that that I’d never in a million years play in their presence (content warnings)! Creating a kid-friendly list is something we’ve been meaning to do for a long time. In this new reality of parents homeschooling their kids — often while working themselves — it felt like there was no more time to delay. These are stories that take you on a journey and give you a new way of looking at the world — and they are some of my favorites episodes we’ve produced. I hope they help parents keep their kids inspired, engaged, and occupied during this time of uncertainty and extended time at home.”
Kid-friendly audience favorites include:
- Is Laughter Just a Human Thing? — An exploration of whether animals can laugh
- Kill ‘Em All — A deep dive into mosquitoes and the purpose they serve
- Loop the Loop — The story of at Lincoln Beachey, one of the most famous pilots you’ve never heard of
- A War We Need — A look at how a phytoplankton known as coccolithophores are engaged in a fight with deadly viruses
- The Times They Are a-Changin’ — A discovery made through sea skeletons reveals that once a very-long-time ago, years were shorter by forty days
- Mapping Tic Tac Toe-dom — A surprising look at how global the game of Tic Tac Toe actually is
- And many more!
